In the Company of Writers presents a series of personal and conversational dialogues featuring guest writers/poets followed by an open mic forum. The Chicago blues music of “Mr. Jimmy,” welcomes you, continues during intermission and closes the evening. Open-mic sign-ups are 6:30 – 7:00 pm and guest authors begin at 7:00 – 8:00 pm with open-mic readings from 8:15 – 9:00 pm. These inspirational gatherings will elucidate and entertain those attending. The next in the series features writers, Erin Weber Boss, and Scott Boss.
Erin Weber Boss received her B.A. in English and her Master of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a focus in creative writing. She is an adjunct instructor at Blue Ridge Community College where she teaches primarily rhetoric and composition courses. As a kindergartner, she wrote books on construction paper and insisted that her teacher display them on the class bookshelf. Her writings include the Midwest, motherhood, and feeling “displaced,” a sure result of her childhood as an Army brat. Her work has appeared in The Great Smokies Review, Literary Yard, the Akashic Books website, and Progenitor Art & Literary Journal, and can also be viewed at http://erinweberboss.weebly.com.
Scott Boss is an author, musician, and computer EMR teacher in Western North Carolina. He began writing at age seven with his “Hammer Head Worm” comic series, that, thankfully, has been spared from public consumption (although his children may take up the mantle). He writes horror, sci-fi, humor, and anything else that occurs to him. For ideas that don’t fit on the page, Scott also writes music and has won the Beta Monkey metal songwriting contest. Scott has been involved in various bands over the years, including Groove Carnival (which released an album with HeyWTF records). his debut novel, Interstellar Islands and its sequel The Night Chasers (Rogue Phoenix Press) are out now. More of Scott’s creations and blog are available at http://scottboss.weebly.com. Send Scott an email if you want to license his works or for him to speak at your conference.
